Beyond Your Scars Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating barriers to healthcare by providing accessible, preventative, and diagnostic medical services directly within underserved communities. Through our Mobile Medical Clinic and strategic community partnerships, we strive to improve health outcomes, increase early detection of chronic illnesses, and connect individuals and families to the healthcare resources they need to live healthier lives.

Our mission is to ensure that no individual is denied access to quality healthcare because of transportation limitations, financial hardship, lack of insurance, or other social determinants of health.

Our Story

Beyond Your Scars Inc. was founded on the belief that healthcare should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic status or geographic location.

Recognizing the growing healthcare disparities affecting underserved communities throughout New York City and Long Island, the organization developed a community-based healthcare model designed to bring services directly to residents where they live, work, and gather.

To address these challenges, Beyond Your Scars Inc. launched a fully equipped Mobile Medical Clinic capable of delivering comprehensive preventative, diagnostic, and wellness services directly within communities. The organization has since expanded its reach through partnerships with community-based organizations, shelters, housing developments, educational institutions, municipalities, and government agencies.

Today, Beyond Your Scars Inc. provides services throughout New York City and Long Island, helping individuals receive healthcare in a convenient, familiar environment while reducing barriers that often prevent people from seeking care.

The organization continues to expand its footprint through strategic collaborations aimed at improving community health and increasing access to preventative healthcare services.

Co-Founder & President

Lataya Carter is the Co-Founder and President of Beyond Your Scars Inc. and serves as the driving force behind the organization’s vision and community outreach efforts.

A lifelong community advocate and nonprofit leader, Ms. Carter has dedicated her career to developing innovative solutions that address disparities affecting underserved populations. Under her leadership, Beyond Your Scars Inc. has established partnerships with community organizations, housing developments, educational institutions, and government agencies throughout New York City and Long Island.

Ms. Carter’s commitment to community empowerment and healthcare accessibility has helped position Beyond Your Scars Inc. as a trusted partner in delivering preventative healthcare services directly to communities in need.

Her vision continues to guide the organization’s growth while ensuring that healthcare remains accessible, equitable, and community-centered.

Doreen Woolford

Co-Founder & Treasurer

As Co-Founder and Treasurer of Beyond Your Scars Inc., Doreen Woolford oversees the organization’s financial management, budgeting, fiscal accountability, and financial reporting. She works closely with leadership to ensure the organization maintains strong financial practices while supporting sustainable growth and expansion.

In addition to her financial responsibilities, Ms. Woolford plays a key role in program planning, operational development, community outreach, and partnership cultivation. As a co-founder, she has been instrumental in helping build the organization’s infrastructure and advancing its mission of providing accessible healthcare services to underserved communities.

Joy Nesbitt

Secretary

Joy Nesbitt serves as Secretary of Beyond Your Scars Inc., where she is responsible for maintaining organizational records, documenting board meetings, managing administrative communications, and ensuring compliance with corporate governance requirements.

In addition to her administrative leadership, Ms. Nesbeth supports patient engagement, scheduling coordination, volunteer management, community outreach efforts, and day-to-day organizational operations. Her attention to detail and commitment to community service help ensure the smooth and effective functioning of the organization and its programs.
